According to a recent news release form the American Wind Energy Association, the nation added nearly 9,922 megawatts of generating capacity in 2009, which powers roughly 2.4 million homes. That brings the nation’s total capacity to over 35,000 MW. Texas added the most wind power in 2009 with 2,292 megawatts or 23% of new capacity far exceeding the four ranked states. See chart below:
